For noobs to the hobby or those unfamiliar with ham radio, here is a rough guide to USECA's FD. Bill N8SA, Ray N8UY (ex-KD8CXY) and myself N8XO will be co-chairing the event this year, and Jim N8MCD will once again open up his farm to host the event. This year, we have decided to have a Hawaiian theme (Bring your best tropical flower shirt!) to the event. Aloha!

12 noon EST Saturday January 30th - 12 noon EST Sunday January 31st
Location: Camp OZANAM The 2010 Winter Field Day will be held from 1700 UTC (12:00 noon EST) Saturday January 30, 2010 through 1700 UTC (12:00 noon EST) Sunday January 31, 2010. The object of the event is familiar to most Amateur Radio operators: set up emergency-style communications and make as many contacts as possible during the 24 hour period. The rules encourage as many contacts on as many bands and modes as possible, because during a real emergency, the most important factor is the ability to communicate, regardless of band, mode or distance. For WFD RULES go to Spar-Hams

For those who are attending Winter Field Day there is a cost of $10.00 which is given to camp OZANAM for the use of there facilities. If you are staying the night you need to bring your own pillow and blanket or whatever you need to make your overnight stay comfortable. For WFD information please contact Pete aa8gk WFD Chairman at aa8gk@yahoo.com or n8za@aarl.net or Larry w8sox@arrl.net. Larry is also coordinating the pass a dish.

There is also a yahoo group for those participating please contact N8ZA for an invite.

Huron, follow M-25 toward Lexington north along the lake.Camp Stapleton is three miles north of Lexington and Camp Ozanam is 5 miles north of Camp Stapleton.

September 27th, 2008, 10AM - 9PM National Preparedness Month
At Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights
The Macomb County Office of Emergency Management will be hosting a Family Emergency Preparedness event at the Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights on Saturday, September 27, 2008. The purpose of this event will be to offer information that the citizen and business owner can use to develop emergency preparedness practices, both at home or in their place of business. Various county departments, along with police and fire department personnel from many of our local jurisdictions and other safety and health related organizations have signed up to participate in this day long event. Indoor and outdoor displays will reflect the theme of "Be Ready, Be Prepared", so grab the whole family and plan to spend the day at Lakeside Mall.

The Macomb County ARPSC (ARES/RACES) will be participating in this event and will be set up in the parking lot of Lakeside Mall. We will be demonstrating the role of amateur radio in the event of an emergency. We are planning to have operational VHF/UHF and HF stations. Volunteers are always needed. Please contact Val, N8OEF at N8OEF@arrl.net if you would like to participate.

May 12th, 2007 Pre-Field Day Picnic 2007
Date: Saturday, 5/12/07
Place: Gladeview A Picnic Area, Stony Creek Metro Park. (same as last year - the first picnic area on the right after you enter the park)
Time: 10 AM till ??? (Lunch served around 1 PM)
Once again it is time for our annual pre-field day picnic at Stony Creek. This is a a great day to meet and socialize with your friends, make new friends, play radio, and enjoy a feast.
You are encouraged to bring and set up your radio station. We have had as many as 7 or 8 stations at this event, more than many other clubs have at their actual Field Day. It is a good opportunity to tweak your station and antenna, get on the air, find any potential problems, check the SWR etc, and make contacts. . If you do not have a radio, you should certainly be able to do some operating and gain experience at someone else.s station.
We have a sheltered pavilion reserved at Gladeview A, so don.t be concerned if the weather is not optimal. You know.May in Michigan? Be advised, a request HAS been made for a warm, sunshiny day. In any case, we have had a lot of fun in years past in inclement weather and will, as usual, be prepared with a supply of Visqueen. Modern, clean restrooms are nearby.
Food will be set out in the afternoon. Leo, KW8J, our Grill Master Par Excellence, will commence to start grilling after 12 noon. The burgers and dogs, (provided by USECA) should be ready to start coming off the grills around 1 PM. We request that you bring a pass-a-dish of some sort, so that we will have the usual outstanding and varied feast to enjoy. Condiments, plates/forks etc. will be supplied. Please bring your own beverages.
Lawn chairs are a good idea, and you can also bring other toys such as kites, skates, volley balls, etc. You do not need to be a member of USECA, or even a ham, to attend. Friends and family are very welcome.
There will be foxhunts (on foot) for fun..Phil, W8IC will bring out a transmitter to be hidden, several hand-held DF set-ups, and show how to use them. It is a lot of fun to trek into the woods.or wherever.(not telling!)...and find the hidden transmitter!
We are hoping for a nice turnout and hope to see YOU there!!!
